Wee, and Not-So-Wee

I’m exhausted from a long day around here and at my allergist’s office, so this is gonna be quick. But I just had to share two things that brought me joy and giggles today.

First, check out this hydroponic basil that George has been growing in the basement for me. They’re huge! That’s my pointer finger as a reference.

Conversely, check out this egg, the first we have gotten from one of our pullets – one of the girls we’ve raised since they were chicks back in January. It’s itty bitty!

No, seriously! Look at it compared to a medium/large-sized egg from one of our adults:

These are the starter eggs that young hens lay, and they gradually work their way up to full-sized eggs. It’s just a wee practice egg. I’m still giggling about it every time I look at it. So tiny! But I’m refraining from laughing in front of the hens. Especially our Welsummer girls, as I suspect that one of them is the novice that provided it.

I’m tempted to fry it – can you imagine? It would be bite-sized!

Tomorrow’s update will be more detailed. I promise.
