I hope that everyone had a wonderful (U.S.) holiday weekend! We kept busy – enjoying the pleasure of my family’s company on Saturday, during which we celebrated our son’s fourth birthday, and then visiting our friends Karl and Scott at Paw Paw Farms on Sunday.
I wish that I could give you a photo rundown, but our camera is on the fritz, and so I am woefully unequipped to give you a glimpse. My brother Danny’s camera phone preserved this happy memory, though – he was really enjoying his time with our flock, and this little hen even perched on his fingers. My parents had an African Grey Parrot for a decade (he had to be re-homed due to the development of allergy issues) and so Danny grew up with him, and a Cockatiel named Tweety. He’s accustomed to having birds as a part of his daily life, and I think he’s been going through withdrawal. 🙂

The heat index is ridiculous here in Michigan, and there are advisories and temporary cooling centers in many areas as a result. We’ve been adding ice cubes to the waterers for the chickens and goats, and keeping a close eye on them for any heat distress. And jumping in the pool quite a bit ourselves. 😉
Keep cool, everyone!
