More Wildflowers

You may remember my post from about a month ago featuring native plants/wildflowers. Well, some new lovelies have come into season, so I thought I’d share them with you quickly this morning! I have yet to identify these purple blooms; I’m using the great database available at U.S. Wildflowers, but still haven’t tracked it down. We have lots of these growing around on the Northwest section of our acreage, and I think they are just beautiful.

If you know the name of this bloom, I’d love to hear from you – please let me know in the comments. You don’t even have to register – you just need to enter a name and email address, the latter of which will not be published.

Need a closer look? As with all photos on the site, just click on it to open an “embiggened” version, and click on the “X” in the upper-right hand corner of that pop-out when you are done to come back to the main page. 🙂

I think I’ve identified the second flower as Frost Aster. What do you think?

Frost Aster?

If you’re looking to identify wildflowers, then US Wildflowers is a great site to consult. They have their own extensive state-by-state database (use the dropdown menu, located about halfway down the main page, to select yours), and they also link to several other databases that you can use in your research. This is really great information for anyone with an interest in native plants. I’ve found it really useful, and I think you will too!

So, what is on your agenda for the week? Mine includes all of the usual farm chores, and today, I need to make zucchini bread, and get some website work done. I also have a little Silver Duckwing Bantam hen that I’m trying to nurse – she has an impacted crop, and I’m administering some mineral oil with an eyedropper to try and loosen it up, so she can get things moving. She isn’t doing so hot, and I’m pretty worried about her. So my plate is full, as usual!

Hope you are all have as-good-as-Monday-can-be kind of day. I’m trying to get a video of all of our different rooster’s crows put together, so watch for that, hopefully later this week sometime!
